Darwin foodies follow the crumbs to Haensel und Gretel for authentic Austrian and German food, straight out of Grandma’s secret recipe book. This food truck is a permanent fixture at Nightcliff foreshore on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Malak Markets on Saturdays, serving up tasty, traditional fare while diners picnic under the stars, enjoying balmy, coastal breezes and European flavours. Expect dishes such as Viennese schnitzel with potato and green salad, or tafelspitz - slow boiled beef with root vegetables, fried potatoes and horseradish sauce. Hearty eaters can tuck into Austro-Hungarian goulash with crusty bread, or South Tyrolean spinach dumplings and Parmesan; just don’t forget to sample from a selection of German sausages, such as bratwurst, currywurst and kasekrainer… wunderbar!
