David conducted our tour. He was polite, knowledgeable, and I liked the cheeky commentary thrown in. It was a great tour and a good way to help me familiarize with Sydney. David was very flexible in our schedule which made the tour enjoyable. Also he takes a pretty good picture for you when asked too.
On the 1rst day of the year 2020 our family went on a private tour with John. What a tour! We were taken to all important places and John explained everything not only about the history, but also (and we liked that especially) about the social change of the places he showed to us, of the devellopment of the city in the past and about future plans. And he took us to places that were not on his plan, but we were interested in and had asked him for. So interesting, so fascinating and it could not have been so great without John. Thank you again!
The Sydney tour was exceptional. The history, the sites, the buildings, the gardens, all of it great. Hugh made us feel welcome and it was a great time. I was blown away by Gap Bay and thought lunch at the Cruising Yacht Club was over the top. Ask for Hugh if possible - he made it fun for us and we enjoyed his scottish accent.
Our driver Hugh had excellent local knowledge and did an excellent job in getting us around the city. Went out of his way to ensure our lunch was served as expected and it was served on time. Would recommend this guide service to others who would like a good overview of Sydney.
Sydney is Sydney. Historic. Cultured. Inspiring. It's not a hard sell. And of course, our Essential tour captured this. But our guide, Hugh, elevated it from enlightening to sublime. FYI: he's Scottish! Admittedly, at first I thought, "Whoa. What's some Scottish dude know about a city in Australia?" As I soon learned, sooo much more than probably most locals themselves. Hugh fell for Sydney while visiting years prior. So he immersed himself in its sights, sounds and history. Now look: he's an Aussie Jedi. And his passion for Sydney shines. Sure, he doesn't know it like a native. He's better: he knows it like a super-fan. His energy is infectious, and it makes tours like these that much more enjoyable. Wherever you are, Hugh: g'day mate!
This tour was a very good companion to the harbor excursion, essentially the flip side, tracing the outline of the harbor through the byways of the sprawling city. We saw historic sights a-plenty, interesting suburbs and parks and an amazing array of beautiful beaches within the city limits, including famed Bondi Beach. Neil, our guide, was friendly and knowledgeable and once we keyed into his sarcastic sense of humor we were off and running. Lunch at the Cruising Yacht Club sounds better than it actually is.
My family and I went on three separate tours with Australian Luxury Escapes, and our experiences varied quite a bit. I will review each tour separately here. Daintree 4WD Tour from Port Douglas - 5/5 stars - I cannot speak highly enough of our tour guide, Rick, who was clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about the diverse flora and fauna of Australia. He literally knew the answer to every question we asked. Rick was very friendly and kept our entire group in high spirits throughout the trip. - Highlights included feeding and petting wallabies, learning to throw a boomerang, cruising down the Daintree River, nature walk through the rainforest with our fantastic guide Rick pointing out interesting plants and animals. - Excellent lunch with fresh fruit and coffee/tea afterwards. The best lunch of all the tours we went on during our 2-week Australia trip. Penguin, Koalas, Wildlife Tour in Melbourne - 4/5 stars - Our guide was helpful and friendly (but not as knowledgeable compared to Rick above). - The highlight was definitely seeing the penguins. What a unique and memorable experience! It was cold and windy at night by the beach so would recommend bringing extra jackets. - Average dinner at a local Australian restaurant. Essential Sydney Tour - 2/5 stars - Our tour guide ruined the tour for us. He was very opinionated and condescending when presenting his views on everything from Australian coffee culture to tourists in Australia. His attitude was very off-putting to say the least. - The tour itself was not worth the money in our opinion. It felt more like a hop-on-hop-off tour with drive-by views of most sites and only a few stops to actually get out of the van for a quick photo. - Lunch at the Yacht Club was average at best. Would be helpful to let your guests know beforehand that proof of ID will be required at check-in at the Yacht Club.
